4-week Advent Study Starts 11/29/18

4-week Advent Study Starts 11/29/18

4-week Advent Study starts this Thursday, Nov. 29th at 7 pm

We will watch a DVD study called The Gift of the Nutcraker by Matt Rawle.

The Nutcracker was first performed in 1892, quickly becoming a holiday tradition, one that continues for many families to this day. In The Gift of The Nutcracker, Matt Rawle takes a look at this Christmas classic in a new way—through the lens of faith. Rawle uses the iconic tale to help us understand God’s greatest gift of the Christ child and of the kingdom Christ came to build.

Childcare will be provided. Questions can be directed to Tina Moyer at

“Anyone, anywhere can be the one to make a difference in the life of someone with a mental health or substance use challenge if they know what to do and what to say.”

(From the Mental Health First Aid Internet page)

  • Mental Health First Aid offers you a way to know what to do and say.

  • Developed in Australia, Mental Health First Aid offers community members the basic skills to support wellness and possibly save lives.   It is successful. It has gained worldwide recognition. Like regular Red Cross first aid, saves people from choking or heart attacks, if we know basics of a mental health crisis, we can make a life changing or lifesaving difference.

  • Baughman Memorial United Methodist Church is offering an abbreviated version of Mental Health First Aid.  Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders.

  • The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis.

  • Reverend Ruth Moore will facilitate the training. Ruth works at PA Psychiatric Institute.  She is certified as a “Mental Health First Aid” trainer. The “Mental Health Training “(lite)” class will be 4 hours and will provide you with all the useful information of the full 8-hour class.

  • This training is Saturday, November 17, 2018 from 9 to 1:00p.m.

  • Snacks and beverages will be provided.

  • We can offer this class to up to 20 participants. Resources will be provided.

Please contact Melinda Rhodes Miller, (717)774-2005 or the receptionist at the BUMC to sign up for the class.
